Welcome to Year 1

Welcome to Y1!

Year 1 is taught by Miss Haynes and learning is supported by Miss Holland, Mrs Cross and Miss Greatbanks.

Welcome back to school after your summer holidays! It has been great to listen to all of the adventures you have been on with your families. I am very excited to be your teacher for Y1 and I can't wait to start this learning journey together.

This term as a whole school we are focusing on the topic of 'Journeys and Discoveries' however our topic to underpin this will be 'Transport'. Our class topic book 'The naughty bus' will help to immerse ourselves into our learning around transport and the journeys it can take us on. During the term, we will be hot air balloon designers and makers, story writers, canal artists and we will even go back in time to look at the inventors of different vehicles. Can you imagine a world without aeroplanes, cars or even trains? How do you think people managed to get around?

The other books we will be reading to help us delve further into our topic are:

  • The hundred decker bus by Mike Smith
  • You can't take an elephant on the bus- Patricia Cleveand-Peck
  • Up and away! How two brothers invented the Hot-Air Balloon by Jason Henry
  • Amelia Earhart- Little people big dreams by Isabel Sanchez Vegara

For more information about our transport learning please look at this term's holistic plan which can be found here

I am very excited for us to start our learning on this topic and to hear all of your wonderful ideas about the learning of transport. Always remember Y1 to be a superstar, work hard and always believe in yourself.

    Your teacher,

    Miss Haynes
