Early on in the week, we were surprised to receive a letter from Mrs Chesters asking us for help! It seemed she had heard a strange crash this morning and she needed us to investigate. We carefully watched the CCTV and discovered a rocket had crashed into the playground early this morning before school! We went out with our clipboards to look for clues to see what we could find. We found some strange oil on the floor, an astronauts costume, some moon soup, some space gloves and so much more! This will help us start our writing piece next week when we write a letter back to Mrs Chesters explaining what we think has happened!

In maths we have continued with our multiplication part of the multiplication and division unit of power maths. We have learnt about arrays and how we can use them alongside counters, number lines and drawings to help us to work out our answers. We also were excited to have our own maths resources on our tables so we can get out anything we need to help us really easily.

In the afternoons, Miss Addis carried on with her science lessons and the children tested out their materials and investigated their properties, mainly if they were waterproof or flexible. It was lovely to see you using all of those science words year 2! We thank Miss Addis for her time in Year 2 and wish her luck on her next placement in her new school.

In our design and technology lessons, we have finished the 'making' part to our lessons and I'm sure you'll agree our t-shirts look wonderful! We finished off painting the t-shirts, using special fabric paint and spray paints. The children were so proud and told Miss Welch when she walked in "We actually designed these ourselves!" They look brilliant Year 2.

In our phonics lessons, my group have continued to look at suffixes with this week's focus being -ness words. We found out some new words to add to our vocabulary list and learnt to spell some words we already knew the meaning of. Mrs Parker's group continued with their split digraph words and focused on applying these words into sentences.

We have also had a few extra focused handwriting sessions this week and you are working really hard. Remember to use the resources around the room to help you to make sure your letters are formed correctly.

Thank you for booking in parents evening appointments for next week. I still have a few slots left for those parents who haven't yet booked on.

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend.

Miss McCurrie
