Year 1's Big Art!

Home » News » Year 1's Big Art!

What a fun packed week we have had so far. We have started our big art work and are hoping to have finished making our penguin, giraffe and elephant by the end of tomorrow. The children have worked with great focus and concentration, not to mention good team work skills, working together to make their masterpieces!

We have also started to read one of our new stories for this term, Elmer by David McKee. If you have any of this series of books at home, please feel free to bring them in. There are quite a few in the series!

Zander was very keen to tell the class that he has adopted a penguin through the WWF and he explained what happens with the money and what you receive in the post. The children decided they would like to adopt an animal after I explained that we had adopted an elephant through Chester Zoo last year. I explained to the children we would have to think of a fundraiser idea and we thought of lots of different ideas, from dress up days to cake sales. We decided in the end to make animal book marks with our newly learned animal facts on and sell them. The children are in the process of making them this week so watch this space!

Each week we will have an 'animal of the week'. The children can find out about this animal at home or in school, by asking friends and family, using the internet or information books at home or the library. The animal of the week will be announced each Friday and any facts or drawings/writing the children do throughout the week can be added to the display. We have already had a few elephant facts in this week. Well done to Caleb and James so far for contributing to our display. We will continue to learn about elephants next week and choose another animal the week after.
