We have all had a super week in year 1! We have been performers, video makers and authors of our own story book.

In English this week, we planned our own sequel of the naughty bus. You all thought carefully about how you would change the title, characters, setting, beginning, middle and end. We had lots of brilliant stories e.g the good bus, the super bus, the frozen bus featuring Elsa and Olaf and the kind bus. During our theme day we created our class sequel book which was going to be called The Wybunbury Bus. Everyone worked together to create our own video which can be watched on YouTube : https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Jdfhr0YR_Do
On Thursday and Friday we then started to write our very own story book for the Wybunbury bus. These are brilliant and I just love how the children have used their own ideas and imagination. Well done everyone!

In maths this week we have been carrying on with our subtraction and addition topic. You have all made so much progress within this topic and it's great to see you all independently adding and subtracting. We looked at using addition and subtraction together to create lots of fact families for just three numbers. We also looked at how we can create more fact families by changing the mathematical symbols around. We then moved onto subtracting numbers by using a number line and counting backwards and how to use number lines to find missing number sentences. We've also really focused this week on trying to answer in full sentences in maths and you have all worked super hard!

We are all doing amazing in reading and I am so proud of all the progress the children are making. Every morning we continue to go into our small groups and learn our new sounds. We have now started to read in our groups so that we can instantly apply our new phonic knowledge and put it into practice. I can tell you are all working so hard because in literacy you are all trying so hard to apply your phonics to your writing so that you and everyone else can read it. Mrs VR and I are very proud of you.

In science this week we focused on how animals and plants adapt to Autumn. We started the lesson by focusing on the word adapt and what we thought it could mean. We decided that this meant change. We found and learnt out lots of facts e.g deciduous tree's leaves change colour but evergreen stay green and how beavers collect food for the winter during Autumn and store it in a dam. At our tables we then worked in groups to read definitions of different adaptations and we then placed it next to the right animal or plant to show what happens during Autumn.

In R.E, we focused on the next part of the Christmas story where Joseph gets a visit from the Angel. We spoke about how Joseph felt before the Angel visited and how he felt after. We role played it in partners so we could understand what the Angel said to Joseph and how this changed his mind.

On Tuesday we had the special treat of our theme day. Please see previous newsletter to hear and see what we got up to.

On Friday we had another special treat because we had our worship. The service you delivered was absolutely amazing. You delivered the special message of joy so beautifully. You all said your lines so clear and loud. You sang from the bottom of your hearts and like I said you didn't just blow my socks off but I think you blew the roof off. I just want to say a huge thank you to all of your families for your constant support but most of all your support at our worship. I've never seen the hall so full and I could see the happiness burst from the children when they saw how full the hall was getting and how so many people came and supported us. So a big thank you!!

It's been a very busy week so enjoy your weekend superstars. See you on Monday!

Miss Haynes
