This week in Literacy we have completed our newspaper reports. This is a tricky genre of writing and the children have worked hard to establish the correct style for their work! Next week, we will begin writing log book entries as though we are Michael aboard the Peggy Sue!

In maths, we have looked at a range of strategies to solve word problems with addition and subtraction. We have used place value, near doubles, number lines and partitioning to solve multi-step problems. We will continue to develop our strategies next week too.

In geography, we have completed our stacks and arch models and have also worked on coordinates, first on a numbered/lettered grid and then in the first quadrant style (2,3). We have played 'Battleship' style games to secure our use of coordinates and we're making our own coordinate map games!

In science, we started work on forces. We went on a forces hunt around school and then continued our work in PE, looking at ways we could demonstrate forces at work! Poor Ethan was spun off his mat when Miss Lake taught us about centrifugal force! We also learned about how friction can be reduced and make a surface dangerous! Next week, we will have fun exploring forces — we have decided science is GREAT!

We have also begun a SECRET SUPER HERO challenge! Every day, Miss Lake picks a name from a bowl with all our names in. We don't know who has had their name picked out. All day long, Miss Lake is checking to see if the person chosen is being a super role model in class. If the person is indeed a superstar, Miss Lake reveals their name at the end of the day and they are rewarded with a headteacher's award and become our 'skipper's mate' the next day, sitting on the sofa with their friends! If the person doesn't have the best of days, their name is not revealed and secret super hero challenge begins again the next day. This is helping us to think about our choices and make the right decisions to be part of the Year 3 team.

A final note, just to remind you all that it is our visit to The Blue Planet Aquarium on Friday. I know the children cannot wait!!

Have a lovely weekend.
