"Stick Man lives in the family tree
with his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three."

This week in our learning we have re read 'Stick Man' and focused on rhyming words. Identifying them at the end of sentences with the same ending sounds, we highlighted them in the text and started to build rhyming strings. As our week progressed we challenged ourselves to find sets of pictures of objects that rhymed and then wrote labels, checking our sounds to ensure the ending sounds matched. In phonics we have explored the 'th' consonant digraph or as we call it 'the rude sound' as we have to stick our tongue out a little to pronounce it.

In number work we have stated to look at number bonds to 10. Initially looking at 10 in the concrete sense, as objects (sticks). We moved them into different positions on the carpet and realised that however much we moved them around they still made 10. We began to move them into two distinct groups and counted the sticks in each group, identifying the two numbers that made up 10, like 2 and 8. We worked our way through the different number bonds calling out the number partners until we were confident with the concept and then progressed into pictorial bonds by creating a large 10 frame on the carpet and replicating the number partners. This will help us as we move into the abstract and create bonds with numbers next week. We are becoming confident mathematicians reception!

Our artist focus this term is Andy Goldsworthy and we have had great fun creating natural art from our large collection of sticks, wooden discs, conkers and pine cones. We have tried to reproduce some of the patterns and features that naturally occur in our environment.

Dare I say it, we have begun to learn all the songs for our Nativity. They are really catchy songs and we have begun to sing them without noticing as we go about our daily routines, like in the dinner queue!

In computing we have used the tablets to start creating an I movie about Stick man, using the stick men we have created in forest school. After positioning them around the garden we took photographs and then downloaded into group files ready to edit. Hopefully we should have them ready to watch next week. Popcorn at the ready!

Forest school saw us creating story logs, willow wands and making leaf and bark rubbings. Thank goodness for our scarves and gloves today, it was rather chilly.

Have a restful weekend and I will see you Monday ready for another adventure.
