Our Final Term Begins in Y6

Home » News » Our Final Term Begins in Y6

Welcome back. I hope you have all enjoyed your Easter break.

We began our week at full speed, reviewing and revising different areas of our curriculum in readiness for our SAT's week commencing 13th May 2019.

In Maths we completed our unit on ratio and began to look at Geometry, angles in particular. Using known angles we calculated unknown angles in triangles, quadrilaterals, on a straight line, around a point and using intersecting lines. Mymaths reflects our learning. Booster sessions have been well attended each night this week. Thank you. These will continue next week as we move onto recapping fractions and percentages. We have completed the 2018 SAT's Arithmetic Paper 1 and will review it next week.

Our focus in book club this week has been on poetry. We have used a Rudyard Kipling poem to discuss and answer inference questions. We also sat the 2018 SAT's Reading Paper where a poem all about Grannie tested our technique.

We took on the role of Monday and Friday in English this week. We will use this stimulus to create a short story of our own. Word banks have been drafted in readiness for next week.

Our SpaG sessions this week have seen us completing some activities on the shul and shus sounds, ance, ence, ancy and ency endings and the ant and ent endings. We will continue with our sessions next week. We have also sat the 2018 SpaG SAT's paper 1 and 2, and reviewed our skills.

RE has been taught by Mrs Whittingham this week, and Mrs Jenkins has taught PE. The question for discussion this term in RE is, "How does the Sermon on the Mount help Christians to follow Jesus?"

We have worked on our African masks and also had a taster French session. After spending a week in France attending a language school with other members of our staffing team, we thoroughly enjoyed playing a game in Y6 to learn different greetings.

Year 6 you are all superstars. I couldn't have wished for a more focused group of Y6 children to return to such a busy time. That karaoke and cake afternoon will be upon us before we know it!!

Have a lovely long weekend.

Mrs B.
