A Minibeast Week to Remember

Home » News » Reception News

On Monday we welcomed Mr Tibbetts into our classroom. He taught us all about snails, and we even got to handle some giant African land snails. We began by sharing what we knew about snails and found out what they eat, where they live and do not live (The South Pole!) We created snail trail art with snail slime, 3D snails using paper, snail stencil artwork and had a timed snail race. All the experiences Mr Tibbetts provided were excellent and a memorable enhancement to our Minibeast topic.

In the mornings we have been writing all about our visit to The Quinta Nature Reserve and played number games to quicken our skills to count in 10s. One of our favourite activities was playing a counting game in the shape of a snail. It was great to see the fast paced turn taking taking place.

Today has been our Minibeast topic day and it has been full of smiles and excitement. Seeing everyone arrive in their costumes was a wonderful way to start our day. Spiders, caterpillars, ladybirds, centipedes, grasshoppers and minibeast hunters all joined the Reception class this morning. We played ugly bug ball games, sung songs, and took part in a Minibeast catwalk. Before lunch we sampled 'nectar drinks' from the kitchen and joined together in the garden to say a fond farewell to our butterflies. 'I hope you come and visit,' 'We will miss you,' 'Have a great adventure,' are examples of our farewell messages. This afternoon we designed our own minibeast party plates and created minibeast snacks for us all to enjoy.

And with our visit to The Quinta Nature Reserve, we have had lots to talk about and memories to share. A week to remember! Thank you to everyone who was a part of it.

Have a lovely half term holiday.
