In Year 3 this week

Home » News » In Year 3 this week

Our week began with a focus on life in the trenches, and the boys from Wybunbury and surrounding villages who made the ultimate sacrifice as they served in World War I. After learning about what life was like in the trenches, and the names of soldiers who shared 'family names' with children in year 3, we created canvases which depicted the trenches, and poppies to honour the fallen.

We shared our work in the very moving whole school worship on Wednesday, before the whole school fell silent as we remembered.

Our English this week has been all about story writing. We played brain games at the start of each lesson to get our creative minds working. We thought about the things Robin and the Outcasts might find if Sherwood was a magical woodland and began our stories with these ideas to build our setting.

Rachel's story began: As I walked down this winding, woodland path, I found an elderly oak, some golden leaves and a magical fairy ring with a fairy in the middle! Next, I stumbled upon a large, log bridge lying over a river. A sleeping red dragon, some golden arrows and an army of goblins were below.

We role played the story and then made story maps so that we can remember each stage very well when we write our own version next week.

In maths, we worked on subtracting 1,10 and 100 from 3 digit numbers. We also worked on Roman Numerals. Everyone achieved well and used patterns to work out how to write larger numbers too. Today, we had a recap lesson on 3 of the skills we have learned so far. There were lots of ticks in EVERY book!

In the afternoons, we have completed study work, enjoyed our PE, continued our coding lessons with Miss Pennance, and learned the colours in French! We shared the story Madame Arc-en-Ciel (Mrs Rainbow), and we played a colour spotting game. Can you sing the rainbow song we learned?

Rouge et orange et jaune et vert,
Bleu, violet, rose.
Je connais les couleurs,
Toutes les couleurs
De mon arc-en-ciel.

Have a restful weekend, year 3 Outcasts. We have another busy week and exciting week ahead next week.
